Police in Simi Valley, Calif., near Los Angeles, chased a bear out of a home after it ate a cake and rummaged through the refrigerator. The Simi Valley Police Department received multiple calls about bear sightings on Sept. 3, with one resident on the 5700 block of Cherokee Circle reporting that the bear was going through their trash and swimming in their pool. At about 10 a.m. the following morning, Sept. 4, police received a 911 call from a resident on the 2600 block of Blossom Street who said a bear entered her house through an open kitchen door. The caller said she and her son were locked in bedrooms upstairs. Officers who responded to the scene got the key to the front door from the homeowner through the second-story window. A video shared by the police department shows officers entering the front door and encountering the bear in the kitchen. Officers shout at the bear and it retreats to the backyard and jumps over a fence. According to police, the bear appeared to have eaten a “freshly baked cake” and rummaged through the refrigerator. Police said the bear climbed a tree, then after about 10 minutes it came down and retreated into the hills. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified about the bear, police said.
