California Highway Patrol plucked a man to safety by helicopter after he was stranded half-way down a 500-foot sheer cliff. A fisherman called 911 when he saw the man, barefoot and wearing only shorts, clinging to Mussel Rock, in Mussel Rock Park, Daly City, CA. The CHP said rescue from the ground was impossible because of where he was on the cliff. Despite challenging winds, the CHP Pilot maneuvered H-30 100 feet over the scene while a CHP Officer/Paramedic simultaneously hoisted a second CHP Officer/Paramedic down to the victim, CHP said. The man was put into a rescue harness, and winched off the cliff with the officer before being flown to a landing zone near the cliff top, where he was treated by EMTs.
