A suspect who led Massachusetts police on a high-speed chase and fled on foot was finally found hiding in a tree thanks to a helicopters infrared camera. Massachusetts State Police responded at about 2:15 a.m. Friday to assist Worcester Police, who were pursuing a suspect who had allegedly broken into the Shoe Supply Store at 1114 Pleasant St. in Worcester. State Troopers joined Worcester police in the chase, pursuing the suspects 2010 Mercedes-Benz E350 sedan onto Route 146 and then onto the Massachusetts Turnpike. Troopers used a Stinger tire deflation device to stop the suspects vehicle in Southborough, and it crashed into the treeline. The suspect fled on foot. A video released by Massachusetts State Police shows an aerial view of the foot search in the area of the crash. Officers and K-9 teams established a ground perimeter, and State Police Air 4, a helicopter from the MSP Air Wing crewed by Sgt. Gregg Spooner and Troopers Joshua Pacheco and Mason Oliveira, searched from the air. At around 4:20 a.m. the air crew spotted the suspect hiding in a tree, about 25–30 feet off the ground. They directed officers on the ground to the tree in the backyard of a home on Cordaville Road. Once surrounded by law enforcement and a K-9 team, the suspect complied and was taken into custody, state police said. The suspect was transferred to Worcester Police for the commercial breaking and entering investigation. State police said additional motor vehicle charges related to the pursuit could follow.
