Four juveniles ages 12 to 16 were arrested in Ohio on Monday after allegedly ramming multiple police cruisers with a stolen car.According to a statement from the Whitehall Police Department, a 2018 blue Hyundai Elantra that had been reported stolen from Grove City was spotted shortly after 8 p.m. on Monday. The car had fled from Grove City police officers.Whitehall officers waited until the vehicle was parked at a Turkey Hill convenience store and blocked it in. A dashboard-camera video shared by the police department shows three cruisers blocking the vehicle. The Hyundai reverses and then rams an unoccupied civilian vehicle and a police cruiser in an attempt to squeeze through and flee. An officer can be seen aiming his weapon at the vehicle as it reverses again. The officer approaches the drivers window, and the vehicle pulls forward again to try to ram through the block. The third cruiser pulls forward to pin the Hyundai against the civilian vehicle. Despite being pinned, the driver seems to continue trying to maneuver the vehicle as a second officer approaches with his weapon drawn.Police say the driver, 16, was “smiling and laughing” when he was pulled from the car. It seems these juveniles are not concerned with the ramifications to their actions and they think this is funny, Chief Mike Crispen said. The passengers were ages 12, 13 and 15, police said. All four were taken into custody.Unfortunately this has become all too common in Franklin County and the greater Columbus area, Deputy Chief Dan Kelso said. We struggle to balance the danger the juveniles create for our citizens while driving these stolen cars, with the danger and havoc they create when we try to take them into custody for their crimes.
